Drotech’s origins go back to 1981, when Arend van Dronkelaar founded Peitz Nederland BV in ‘s-Heerenberg, the Netherlands. As an agent of the widely known Peitz Paderborn, producing axles, overrun hitches and close-coupler systems for light and heavy vehicles, he sold these products to body, trailer and lorry manufactures based in the Benelux. The sales success created demand in the after market. A warehouse was established and the first employees were hired.
In 1990, the range for heavy vehicles with Schneider products, well-known for our twist-locks, among others, and Drotech BV was incorporated. With the arrival of Henk Sturme in 1993, the development of Drotech accelerated. The range was expanded with products of Aluteam, Kӧmmerling (glue and kit products) and Bernhofer (drawbar eyes). From 1996, the relations with light vehicle construction companies were intensified. The work area expanded from the Benelux to all of Europe.
Around 2000, at the instructions of a light vehicle manufacturer, Drotech started an experiment of importing jockey wheels from Asia under direct management. The number of jockey wheels quickly increased, followed by various locks and hinges. This cemented a change in the procurement strategy. Drotech increasingly supplied parts custom-made in Asia. With direct imports from Asia, the company needed to expand the warehouse. In 2007, Drotech moved to Horsterweg in Sevenum.
After having successfully withstood the turbulent economic tide around 2009, Drotech shows annual growth in sales, profit and range. The share of the light vehicle sector versus the heavy vehicle sector has fully reversed in the past few years.
